Għaqda Poeti Maltin – Maltese Poets Association

Poeżija Internazzjonali - International Poetry

    Malta - Italy

Anthology with a difference

Għaqda Poeti Maltin recently launched a collection of poems by Italian and Maltese poets entitled I silenzi della montagna e le voci del mare, which was printed in Italy.

In his introductory speech, Charles Magro, the society's secretary, said the anthology has been well received in Italy. International secretary Emmanuel Attard Cassar covered the genesis of this anthology from its inception to the happy collaboration between the Centro filatelico e numismatico di Morbegnese and Għaqda Poeti Maltin. The binding link was Italian poetess Paola Mara de Maestri. Mario Vella then read out a critique on the anthology with special reference to the Maltese poems, published in an English translation.

Vella said this was a wise step and an excellent opportunity for local poets to roam outside Maltese shores. The society had opened its doors to local poets, this time offering them healthy competition from foreign poets.

Joseph Axiaq, assistant secretary, distributed copies of the anthology to all those who had contributed to it.

Silences of the Mountain and Voices of the Sea

Għal darb'ohra l-Għaqda Poeti Maltin toħroġ barra minn xtutna:  il-ġabra poetika I silenzi della montagna e le voci del mare hi frott ta' kollaborazzjoni bejn iċ-Circolo Culturale Filatelico Numismatico Morbegnese, il-Comunità Montana Valtellina di Morbegno u l-Għaqda Poeti Maltin. Din l-inizzjattiva tgħaqqad idealment b'pont virtwali, biex nuża il-kliem ta' Paola Mara De Maestri, kunsilliera taċ-Circolo Culturale Filatelico Numismatico Morbegnese, l-Italja, u b'mod parikulari il-Valtellina, imsejjħa perla qalb l-Alpi, minn fejn nibdet din l-idea, ma' Malta, gżira f'nofs il-baħar. Qalb kuntrasti u korrispondenzi, bejn is-skiet tal-muntanji u l-ħsejjes tal-baħar nibtu dawn il-poeżiji bit-Taljan u bl-Ingliż li jkomplu jagħmlu ġieh lill-Poeżija li taqbeż u tissupera il-konfini nazzjonali u tal-baħar biex tgħaqqad, meta jkun hemm ir-rieda tajba, lill-ġnus.

Ġa fl-imgħoddi l-Għaqda Poeti Maltin ħadet sehem f'inizzjattivi simili: Rivachiara (1985), per eżempju, kienet ġabra ta' poeżiji ta' poeti Maltin u Taljani bit-Taljan, waqt li Tifkiriet Kalabrizi – Ġieh lill-Kalabrja (Ricordi calabresi – Omaggio alla Calabria, 1986) u l-antoloġija Msiebaħ Mediterranji (Lucerne mediterranee, 1995) huma biss tnejn mill-ġabriet poetiċi li l-Għaqda Poeti Maltin ippubblikat bil-Malti u bit-Taljan.

Minn mindu l-Għaqda Poeti Maltin twaqqfet minn Mons. Dr. Amante Buontempo fl-1975 bil-għan ewlieni li xxerred il-poezija, ikun x'ikun l-ilsien, din ippubblikat tmien antoloġiji b'poeżiji bil-Malti, bl-Ingliż, bit-Taljan – li ġa semmejna – kif ukoll bil-Franċiż u bl-Esperanto.

Waħda mill-attivitajiet annwali nteressanti ta' l-Għaqda P. M. hija l-organizzazzjoni tal-Konkors Nazzjonali tal-Poeżija li kiseb popolarità sewwa fost il-poeti kemm stabbiliti kif ukoll ġodda ta' pajjizna: barra l-kategorija ta' poeżija bil-Malti li, bix-xieraq, jkun fiha l-akbar numru ta' partecipanti, il-Konkors jinkludi ukoll is-sezzjoni ta' poeżija bl-Ingliz, b'parteċipazzjoni tajba, kif ukoll dik, b'numru iżgħar iżda sinjifikattiv, bit-Taljan.

Alfred Palma, preżenti f'din l-antoloġija b'poeżija li ġġib l-isem To my dying Mother, hu magħruf sew għat-traduzzjonijiet ghall-Malti tal-plays ta' Shakespeare kif ukoll tad-Divina Commedia tant li proprju għalhekk it-traduttur ġie mistieden Ravenna, il-belt fejn Dante miet u hu midfun. Vincenzo Maria Pellegrini, li kien membru ewlieni ta' l-Għ.P. M., kiteb, fost xogħlijiet ohra, libretti ta' l-opri bit-Taljan bhal Ipogeana, Caterina Desguanez u Angelica (La sposa della Mosta), ilkoll immużikati mill-mibki Carmelo Pace.

Dun Karm innifsu, meta kien għadu seminarist u qabel ma beda jikteb bil-Malti, inawgura l-karriera letterarja tiegħu b'xogħliet tajbin bit-Taljan li juru r-rabta tiegħu mal-klassiċi. Fil-poemetto Naufragio a  San Paolo, per eżempju, tinħass sewwa l-influwenza ta' Foscolo, Petrarca u Dante fuq il-poeta żagħżugħ Malti.

Ħasra li fit-taqsima Maltija tal-ġabra insibu xi żbalji li bi ftit attenzjoni mill-kuraturi Taljani u  konsultazzjoni mal-Maltin setgħu ġew faċilment evitati.  Is-suġġetti tal-poeżiji huma varjati; din il-varjazzjoni tapplika ukoll għall-forma metrika: kien hemm min ipprefera juża il-vers liberu waqt li ohrajn għażlu forom metriċi aktar tradizzjonali.

Alfred Massa jiftaħ it-taqsima Maltija b'A Bad Dream u jirrifletti dwar the problem of evil / that sickens our world: iżda m'hemmx soluzzjoni ghat-thousand unsolved whys.

Għal Charles Magro il-poeżija is like a spark that encourages / and brightens / the dark corridors of the mind (Poetry). Poeżija ħelwa li għandha tema pjuttost simili hi Maybe that's why I was born a Poet ta' Noel Fabri.

Grupp ta' poeżiji dwar l-ambjent, suġġett li kull ma jmur ġustament qed jinteressa dejjem aktar lill-poeti, huma Road Blues, ta' Therese Vella, A Wish ta' Joseph Axiaq u Spring ta' Mary Grace Caruana. F' My Friend the Sea Alfred Calleja jsib is-serħan ħdejn il baħar.

F'din il-ġabra nsibu numru sabiħ ta' poetessi b'poeżiji tajbin ta' natura differenti: Mary Doris Chircop (Peoples of the World unite), Miriam Camilleri (If), Rita Debono (To Richard), Amanda Busuttil (A filthy old Photograph) u Jane Micallef (Apocalypse 2000) fejn l-aħmar tad-demm iserrep donnu jrid jitmejjel bl-aħmar ta' nżul ix-xemx.

Il-vojt tas-soċjetà materjalista tal-lum huwa suġġett li diversi poeti ħassew il-htieġa li  jittrattaw f'din il-ġabra, ghalkemm, naturalment kull wieħed u waħda minnhom  jesprimi dan  minn angoli  differenti.

Therese Pace (Growing Tall) u Joe Zammit Tabona bis-sunett Mdina 2000 it-tnejn juru li jafu jħaddmu b'sengħa kbira l-ilsien Ingliż. Emmanuel Attard Cassar f'Appreciation josserva li ħajjitna will gain / if we treasure / and practice genuine appreciation. Raymond Grech jagħtina ir-riflessjonijiet tiegħu f'egħluq il-54 sena  (Then I would miss the Bus) filwaqt li Ġorġ Borg tana poeżija qasira ta' effett: Two Stars.

F'The Rape of a Nation David Borg Attard jirrifletti fuq il-gwerra bla tmiem fl-Art hekk imsejjħa Imqaddsa. Fuq suġġett ta' natura għal kollox differenti, f' Cheers before you drive, Godwin Cini jistedinna ma nixorbux qabel ma nsuqu.

Carmel Bianchi jiftakar, f'In the Cemetry, f'dawk li ħallew din id-dinja waqt li Guido Lanfranco jisma' l-ilħna ta' l-għeżież tieghu f'Voices. John Mallia hu l-awtur ta' Stress Bound : we searched for love / beyond the gloomy light / of our spent eyes. Omar Seguna jiddedika l-poeżija tieghu To the Immortal Memory of Gużé Chetcuti , wiehed mill-kittieba ewlenin ta' Malta. Carmel Mallia (Tanka) u  Jonathan Balzan (A Murmur from the Deep) tawna tnejn mill-aktar poeżiji interessanti tal-ġabra.

At the Theatre ta' Salv Sammut turina is-solitudini ta' l-attur meta jintemm l-ispettaklu filwaqt li Mario Attard itemm il-poeżija Illusionary Exhibition  b'dawn il-kliem ta' impatt kbir: I am / an exhibitor / of blank frames / with no feedback.

Dan  it-tibdil ta' ideat bejn poeti Maltin u Taljani hu inkoraġġanti għal-letteratura u għall-poeżija ta' pajjiżina: fl-iżolament nispiċċaw b'poeti, kittieba, mużiċisti u artisti provinċjali li mingħalina lħaqna is-sema meta fil-fatt inkunu biss tlajna sas-sular ta' fuq. Għalhekk din il-pubblikazzjoni li qisha speċi ta' ġemellaġġ bejn poeti Maltin u Taljani għandha tkun pass għat-tixrid tal-kitba u tal-poeżija.

Ta' dan ngħidu grazzi lill-Għaqda Taljana Circolo Culturale Filatelico Numismatico Morbegnese, lill-Għ.P.M u lil dawk taw sehemhom biex din l-inizzjattiva isseħħ.

I Silenzi della Montagna e Le Voci del Mare

Silences of the Mountain and Voices of the Sea

Translated from Maltese by Therese Pace

Once more the Maltese Poets Society goes overseas: the poetry collection I silenzi della montagna e le vci del mare is the fruit of collaboration between the Circolo Culturale Filatelico Numismatico Morbegnese, the Cominità Montana Valtellina di Morbegno and the Maltese Poets Society. This initiative ideally combines two countries with a virtual bridge, to use the words of Paola Mara de Maestri, councillor of the Philatelic Circle of Morbegno, Italy, particularly the Valtellina, called the pearl of the Alps, from where this idea sprouted with an island in the middle of the sea, Malta.  Among contrasts and correspondences, between the silence of the mountains and the sounds of the sea, poems in Italian and English were born to keep on honouring poetry that goes beyond national and sea barriers to join nations when there is goodwill.

The Maltese Poets Association has already in the past taken part in similar initiatives: Rivachiara (1985), for example, was a collection of poems of Maltese and Italian poets in the Italian language, while Tifkiriet Kalabriżi- Ġieħ lill-Kalabrja (Ricordi Calabresi-omaggio alla Calabria, 1986) and the anthology Msiebaħ Mediterranji (Lucerne Mediterranee, 1995) are but two of the poetry collections that the Maltese Poets Association published in Maltese and Italian.

Ever since the association was established by Mons. Dr. Amante Buontempo in 1975, with the ultimate scope of making poetry known, whatever the language, it has published eight anthologies of poetry in Maltese, English and Italian-which we have already mentioned- as well as in French and Esperanto.

One of the annual, interesting activities of the Association of Maltese Poets is the organization of the national poetry contest which has gained reputation among the established and emerging poets of our country-besides the category of poems in Maltese which befittingly attracts the highest number of participants, the contest also includes the section of English poetry with a good participation, as well as the section in Italian with a significant, albeit a smaller number. The GĦ.P.M. realized that the “foreign” language, -although it is certain that English and (to most of the Maltese writers), Italian, are not totally “foreign” languages-it shouldn’t make prolific writers shy away but should serve as medium so that the work of local poets is uninhibitedly read overseas.

The collection contains two sections: in the first part we find 90 poems in Italian by 90 different Italian poets while the second section embraces thirty  Maltese  poets, all members of the GĦ.P.M., each with one poem in English.

Malta’s geographical position in the centre of the Mediterranean as well as the history of our country make of our island a cultural, artistic and therefore linguistic crossroads. Elect Maltese writers were and still are capable of  writing good stories, poems and drama in other languages: in the recent past, for example, dramatist Francis Ebejer regaled us with great works in Maltese and English. Alfred Palma, himself present in this anthology, with the poem To my Dying Mother is well known for his translations into the Maltese language of Shakespeare’s plays and the Divina Commedia in that it is for this reason that he has been invited to Ravenna, the city where Dante died and is buried. Vincenzo Maria Pellegrini, who was an avid member of the GĦ.P.M., wrote, among other works, opera librettos in Italian like Ipogeana, Caterina Desguanez and Angelica (La sposa della Mosta), all of them put to music by the mourned Carmelo Pace.

Dun Karm himself, when still a seminarian, and before starting to write in Maltese, launched his career with good works in Italian which show his tie with the classics. In the poemette Naufragio a San Paolo, for example, the influence of Foscolo, Petrarca and Dante is deeply felt on the Maltese young poet.

It is a pity that in the Maltese Poets’ section of the collection we find some errors that with a bit more attention from the Italian curators and consultation with the Maltese counterparts could well have been avoided. The themes of the poems are varied; this variation applies also to the metric form: there were some who preferred to use blank verse while others chose more traditional metric forms.

Alfred Massa opens the local section with A Bad Dream and reflects about the problem of evil/that sickens our world; but there is no solution for thousand unsolved whys. An efficacious variation of this theme is Sleepless Night by Patrick Sammut.

For Charles Magro poetry is like a spark that encourages/and brightens/the dark corridors of the mind (Poetry). A sweet poem with a more or less similar theme is Maybe that is why I was born a Poet by Noel Fabri.

A group of poems about the environment, a subject which as we go along is attracting the interest of more poets, and justly so, are Road Blues by Therese Vella, A Wish by Joseph Axiaq and Spring by Mary Grace Caruana. In My Friend the Sea Alfred Calleja finds respite near the sea.

In this collection we find a good number of female poets with good poems of different nature; Mary Doris Chircop (Peoples of the World Unite), Miriam Camilleri (If), Rita Debono (To Richard), Amanda Busuttil (A Filthy old Photograph) and Jane Micallef (Apocalypse 2000) where the red colour of blood writhes as if to make fun of the crimson of sunset.

The emptiness of the materialistic society of today is a subject that various poets felt the need to treat and exploit in this collection, although naturally, each and every one of them expresses this from different angles.

Therese Pace (Growing Tall) and Joe Zammit Tabona with the sonnet Mdina 2000, both demonstrate a great mastery of the English Language and an ability to use it with aptitude in weaving their poems. Emmanuel Attard Cassar in Appreciation observes that our lives  will gain/if we treasure/and practice genuine appreciation. Raymond Grech gives us his reflections on his 54th birthday (Then I would Miss the Bus) while George Borg gave us a short effective poem Two Stars.

The  blabberings of the elect, which lead nowhere is the theme of The Boardroom by Maurice Mifsud Bonnici. In The Rape of a Nation, David Borg Attard reflects on the endless warring in the so called Holy Land. On a totally different subject, in Cheers Before you Drive, Godwin Cini invites us to not drink before we drive.

Carmel Bianchi remembers, in, In The Cemetry  those who left this world while Guido Lanfranco hears the voices of his loved ones in Voices. John Mallia is the author of Stressbound: we searched for love/beyond the gloomy light/of our spent eyes. Omar Seguna dedicates his poem To The Immortal Memory of Guzé Chetcuti, one of the best Maltese writers. Carmel Mallia (Tanka) and Jonathan Balzan (A murmur from the Deep) gave us two of the most interesting poems of the collection.

Salv Sammut’s At the Theatre shows us the solitude of the actor when he ends his show while Mario Attard ends the poem Illusionary Exhibition with these words of great impact; I am/an exhibitor/of blank frames/with no feedback.

This exchange of ideas among Maltese and Italian poets is encouraging to literature and for local poetry: in isolation we end with provincial poets, authors, musicians and artists who think they have reached the sky when in fact they have only got to the first floor. Therefore this publication which is some sort of twinning between Maltese and Italian poets should be a step forward towards the promulgation of writing and poetry.

For this we thank the Circolo Filatelico Numismatico Morbegnese, the Għaqda Poeti Maltin and all those who contributed so that this initiative materialized.

IS-SILENZJI TAL-MUNTANJA U L-ILĦNA TAL-BAĦAR

8 ta’ Jannar 2008

L-avviż ġie ftit ġranet qabel il-Milied. Il-ġabra poetika ġdida li jien ippjanajt u li tinvolvi ħbieb taċ-Ċentru Kulturali Filateliku u Numiżmatiku ta’ Morbegno u l-Għaqda Poeti Maltin,  ġiet organizzata bil-kollaborazzjoni siewja tal-Komunità tal-Muntanja ta’ Morbegno fil-Valtellina,u l-għajnuna tal-Muniċipalità tal-belt tal-bitto.

L-inizjattiva bl-isem Is-Silenzju tal-Muntanja u l-Ilħna tal-Baħar tfittex li tgħaqqad żewġ dinjiet li jidhru mbegħda, imma li fil-verità huma viċini ħafna.  L-Italja u Malta huma magħquda b’viċinanza ġjografika u kulturali. Ikkunsidra li sa l-1934 it-Taljan kien il-Lingwa uffiċċjali ta’ dan l-istat.

L-iskambju bejn dawn iż-żewġ nazzjonijiet magħmul permezz ta’ dan il-fil straordinarju u komuni li hu l-poeżija, ir-raġuni għal din il-kompetizzjoni, fil-fatt diġà beda min-naħa tiegħi ma’ l-Għaqda Poeti Maltin  permezz tal-Bottega Letterarja. Kittieba minn dil-gżira sbejħa huma ppublikati regolarment fl-insert dedikat kollu kemm hu ghall-poeżija u awturi għannejja oħra Taljani jiġu moqrija mill-paġni tal-magazin Malti tal-poeżija. Din l-għaqda li tħaddan il-fuq minn tmenin membru,  torganizza żewġ kompetizzjonijiet ta’ poeżija kull sena, u laqgħat letterarji kull xahar f’postijiet differenti ta’ dawn iż-żewġ gżejjer ewlenin. Xi kultant il-qari jiġi organizzat b’kollaborazzjoni mal-Kunsilli Lokali jew għaqdiet oħra li mhux bilfors ikunu ta’ xeħta letterarja. L-Għaqda għandha l-magazin uffiċċjali tagħha msejjaħ VERSI li hu ddedikat esklussivament għall-poeżija. Flimkien mal-kompożizzjonijiet ta’ awturi varji, jkun fih kritika letterarja, intervisti, riċensjonijiet u artikli oħra ta’ nformazzjoni mid-dinja tal-poeżija. Il-magazin jiġi stampat tliet darbiet fis-sena, u ntenzjonat direttament għall-istudenti. Barra dan, l-Għaqda tippublika folju ta’ l-attivitajiet ta’ kull tliet xhur li jservi ta’ kuntatt bejn l-għaqda u l-membri tagħha. Barra minn hekk, l-għaqda tippublika  antoloġiji poetiċi miktuba mill-membri tagħha. (Site: www.ghpm.netfirms.com).

Ninsab ferħana ħafna li l-proġett tiegħi intlaqa’ bl-entużjażmu u l-ħeġġa. Mhux faċli tħejji u tniedi kompetizzjoni, speċjalment jekk tixtieq tippromwovi inizjattiva bla ma tgħabbi l-parteċipanti b’taxxi, tal- qari jew parteċipazzjoni. Għalhekk inrodd ħajr lil dawk kollha li għal raġunijiet varji jikkontribwixxu għas-suċċess ta’ dil-kompetizzjoni, partikularment Alderman Marcello De Pianto li meta sema’ b’dal-proġett wera ruħu nteressat ħafna u ħatru fost  l-inizjattivi l-iktar importanti li jaqbel magħhom fejn għandu x’jaqsam id-Dipartiment tiegħu. Mhux faċli ssib daqshekk disponibbiltà lejn il-poeżija, li minkejja li tidher diffuża, ta’ spiss hija l-vittma ta’ suq sterili li minflok iseddaq ġmielha u l-importanza tagħha, jitfagħha f’ċirku umiljanti tal-ftit imxierka. Minkejja dan, il-poeżija bħall-mużika u l-pittura, hija universalment maqsuma u mħallata, b’mod speċjali f’soċjetà bħal tagħna, miżgħuda b’superfiċjalità u nuqqas ta’ valuri pożittivi, forza mexxejja , kapaċi tqanqal il-kuxjenzi. Fil-poeżija l-kliem jista’ jittrażmetti emozzjonijiet li toħloq hi, stat tal-moħħ, tiċċaqlaq fil-ġewwieni, u għandha potenzjal bla limitu. Kemm kitbiet inkitbu sa issa,u minkejja dan il-kombinazzjonijiet ġodda ta’ kliem ma jispiċċawx, bla tmiem bħar-riżiltati miksuba. Il-poeżija hija xi ħaġa intima, passjoni li ladarba tħossha, trid tikkultivaha minkejja dak li jgħidu l-barranin.

Hu għalhekk li nistedinkom biex tieħdu sehem fl-inizjattiva tagħna. Irrid nirringrazzja lil ħbieb taċ-Ċirkolu kulturali, lid-direttri kollha, iżda speċjalment lill-kunsillier Luke Villa li aċċetta u qasam magħna dal-proġett. Dawn l-inizjattivi iseħħu biss bl-għajnuna ta’ voluntiera qawwija u ppruvati, li ħafna drabi jkollhom iġorru l-piż ta’ kumpanija bħal tagħna, li ma tgawdix fiduċja, mhix altruwista u riffieda.

Il-premju jinkludi żewġ sezzjonijiet, sezzjoni A merfugħa għal ċittadini Taljani u sezzjoni B mogħtija lill-poeti Maltin. Dwar is-sezzjoni  miftuħa għat-Taljani, kull kompetitur jista’ jibgħat poeżija waħda biss, b’tema ħielsa, ta’ mhux iżjed minn 28 vers. Mal-poeżija jridu jkunu mehmuża tagħrif qasir  dwar il-poeta, indirizz, numru tat-telefon, u ndirizz elettroniku. Il-parteċipanti jridu jibagħtu x-xogħlijiet mhux aktar tard mill-15 ta’ frar 2008 lil concorsopoesia@circolomorbegnese.it.

Ix-xogħlijiet jiġu evalwati, b’mod indiskutibbli u konklusiv minn ġurija magħmula minn nies ta’ ħila u mrawma li huma mogħtija għall-kamp tal-kulura, sew għal sezzjoni A kif ukoll għal sezzjoni B. L-awturi li jintagħżlu jiġu nklużi f’publikazzjoni interkulturali ta’ poeżija b’sezzjoni A bit-Taljan u sezzjoni B bl-Ingliż.

The silence of the mountain and the voices of the sea"

06 January 2008

The announcement came a few days before Christmas. The new International poetry collection that I devised involving friends of the Cultural Circle Philatelic and Numismatic Circle of Morbegno,  The Association of Maltese Poets, organized through the valuable collaboration of the Community of Morbegno Montana Valtellina and the support of the Municipality of the city of Bitto.

. The initiative under the title "The silence of the mountain and the voices of the sea" seeks to combine two seemingly distant worlds, but in reality very close. Italy and Malta are united by close geographic and cultural proximity.. Consider that the Italian was the official language of this state until 1934.

. The exchange between these two nations carried out through this extraordinary common thread that is poetry, the purpose of the competition, has in fact already begun on my part, through the "Bottega letteraria" with  the Association of Maltese Poets. Authors of this beautiful island are regularly published on our insert devoted entirely to poetry and other singing Italian authors are read through the pages of the magazine of Maltese poetry. This association which counts over eighty members, organizes two poetry competitions every year and literary meetings each month in different premises on the two largest islands Malta and Gozo.. Sometimes readings are organized with the collaboration of local councils or other associations which are not always of the literary kind. The association has its own official magazine called Versi and that is exclusively dedicated to poetry. In addition to the compositions of the various poets containing literary criticism, interviews, reviews and other articles of information on poetry in the world are also included. The magazine is printed three times a year and is directed especially towards students.. In addition to this, the association publishes a newsletter on the activities of each quarter, which serves as a contact of the association with its components. Besides, the association publishes poetry anthologies written by its members. (Site: www.ghpm.netfirms.com).

I am very happy that my project has been greeted with both enthusiasm and diligence. To set up a competition is not an easy thing, especially if you want to promote an initiative without burdening taxes on participants with reading or entrance fees. I therefore thank all those who for various reasons contribute to the success of this competition, in particular 'Alderman Marcello De Pianto that upon hearing of the project, has shown to be very interested and has made it among the most important initiatives to be supported with regard to its Department. It is not easy to find so much availability on the scope of poetry that despite the apparent diffusion, is often "victim" of a sterile market, that rather than enhancing its beauty and importance, relegates it to a humiliating circle for a few assigned people. Yet poetry, like music and painting is, especially in a society like ours now pervaded by the superficiality and lack of positive values, universally shared, a "driving force" able to move consciences. The words in poetry can convey emotions they create, state of mind, moving inside, and have unlimited power.. How many compositions were written so far, and yet, new combinations of words are endless, endless as are the results obtained.. Poetry is something intimate, a passion that if one feels it,  must really cultivate, regardless of the external reviews.

. That is why I invite everyone to participate in our initiative. I must say thanks to friends of the Cultural Circle , to all directors, but especially to the Councillor Luke Villa for having accepted and shared this project. These initiatives are only achievable thanks to  strong and tested volunteers, who often have to bear the burden of a company like ours, deprived of faith, not very altruistic and supportive.

. The prize includes two sections, section A, reserved for Italian citizens and section B given to Maltese Poets. Regarding the section open to the Italians, each competitor will send only one poem, any theme, of no more than 28 lines. The text must be in Italian. We must attach to the poems, a short curriculum,  address, phone number, email. Participants must send their work not later than February 15, 2008 to concorsopoesia@circolomorbegnese.it.

. The works will be evaluated, with unquestionable and conclusive judgement by a jury made up by trained and skilled people committed to the field of culture, both for Section A and for Section B.. The authors who will be selected will be proposed for inclusion in an intercultural publication of the poems of section A in Italian and those of Section B in English.

It also sells in schools.
